Overview - The UAS Operator Course

The ASSUREd Safe UAS Operator course is a foundational, hands-on training program designed to prepare public safety professionals for real-world drone operations. Developed with leading UAS researchers and emergency response experts, it offers a rigorous pathway to credentialing and operational readiness.

Becoming an ASSUREd Safe UAS Operator is designed to bridge the gap beyond FAA Part 107 certification by developing highly capable UAS professionals who operate in full compliance with airspace regulations and policy. The program emphasizes adherence to rigorous operational frameworks, safety and risk management protocols, and effective crew coordination and communication, preparing UAS Operators to conduct safe, reliable, and defensible missions in public safety environments.

During this 5-day course, students will complete over 10 flight hours during scenario-based training. Modeled emergency response situations include:

  • Search and Rescue 
  • Night Operations
  • I.D. and Tracking
  • Modeling and Mapping
